Graduate Cover Letter





Cover letters should demonstrate your ability to perform the job requirements set by the employer. For this reason graduates should be precise when describing their skills. In the example below, a graduate from a Bachelor of Information Technology is applying for a job as a network administrator. Specific areas of the curriculum are listed so that the employer can more easily associate the value that the degree can bring to the job.

The idea behind listing specific subjects or areas of study is that the employer may understand that on a broad level the degree is related to the advertised job, but he may not know specifically how your education relates to the advertised job.

Listing specific education or training not only helps the employer to associate your cover letter with the advertised job, but it also demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the duties.

Please accept my application for the position of Network Administrator as advertised on www.jobserve.com on 22 July 2010.

I have recently completed a Bachelors Degree in Information Technology where I majored in Information Systems and Data Communications. I found the course curriculum to be comprehensive and informative, particularly in the fields of Internet Protocols, Wide Area Technologies and Transmission Mediums where I achieved the grade of High Distinction.

I look forward to assisting you by supporting the Cisco network hardware listed in the advertisement, especially the 2811 routers. My experience with Cisco products also includes a home network consisting of three routers and one switch. Using this lab I have tried and tested dozens of network configurations in order to further my knowledge in preparation for a position such as this one. I have succesfully created labs equivalent to CCNP level curriculum.

Please find attached my resume that further outlines relevant education and experience, of particular interest section 3  that details my progress toward the Cisco Certified Network Administrator certification.
