Tips on What Not to Wear to a Job Interview
Bright coloured or patterned suits. Always keep the colours conservative. Keeping to a classic look will always be your safest bet. Avoid going for the latest fashion fad and steer clear of bright colours, patterns or attention grabbing materials.
Business Shirts. Avoid bright colours and patterns. Steer clear of shiny or sheer fabrics.

Ties. Avoid ties with cartoon characters, symbols or loud patterns as these can deduct from your professional appearance.
Pants. Avoid ill fitting pants. Always make sure your pants are tailored. Make sure the fit is not too tight or too relaxed. Once again, keep your pants matched with your suit.
Socks. Never wear sports socks, or any type of coloured patterned socks.
Shorts, Jeans, Linen or Cargo Pants. Any type of either of these is unacceptable. Casual clothing is a sure fire way to show the potential employer you are not taking the job seriously.
T-shirts and singlets. Never wear either of these to an interview if you want to be considered seriously for the job. A business shirt is a must. Anything less is unacceptable.
Avoid wearing thongs, sandals or sneakers/trainers. These are not suitable options for the workplace. Avoid bright colours or outrageous styles. Just because a particular style looks great for a night out on the weekend, this does not make it the right choice for a job interview.
Beards & Moustaches. Do not present yourself for a job interview with an untamed beard or moustache. Grab a comb and make sure that you keep any facial hair in a neat and tidy manner. Another important point to remember is if you eat shortly before your interview always check in the mirror to see that you do not have any food or other foreign items stuck in there! Guys, this is just as bad, if not worse than ladies who end up with lipstick on their teeth! On the other hand, if you do not have any facial hair make sure you are freshly shaven. A 5 o’clock shadow will show a lack of attention to detail, and that you are not taking the position seriously. A freshly shaven face always gives a cleaner appearance.

Overpowering cologne/aftershave can make the interview an unpleasant experience for the potential employer especially if they do not like the scent, or find it too strong. There is always the possibility that they may have an allergy to colognes/aftershaves as well so avoid anything more than a light spray or dab. You don’t want to be remembered for your overpowering smell.
Avoid bringing a manila folder or any sort of backpack with you to the job interview. These do not represent professionalism.
Avoid sour expresions on your face. A potential employer will notice in the
very first few moments of the interview if you seem disinterested, annoyed, bored or tired. Always show how happy you are for the opportunity to be interviewed for your potential role.
Avoid Poor Personal Hygiene. Always make sure to present yourself at your very best. You need to represent the whole package deal that the potential employer is looking for.
