Winter Business Attire for Women
"What a strange power there is in clothing. " ~Isaac Bashevis Singer

A lot of the winter wardrobe favourites like our fur boots, puffer jacket or a big thick baggy cardigan or jumper are great for keeping rugged up on the weekend or a night out, but unfortunately they do not scream out “professional” in the workplace.

So, when choosing what to wear in the workplace, follow these simple winter business attire suggestions for women and you will be feeling warm and looking professional in no time!

1. Winter Coat
Look for a wool or wool blend coat to keep you extra warm. The coat needs to be at least knee length and have a tailored shape such as a princess or pea coat style. Keep the colours to a neutral palette. For e.g.:- black, grey, navy, camel, beige or brown. These colours will compliment the attire you already have for the office, and can be worn for many seasons without being dated or out of fashion like a bright colour that may be the big trend for the moment.

2. Boots
If wearing a skirt in the winter months, you can pair it with a classic pair of heeled knee high boots and opaque pantyhose to give you a professional appearance that keeps both your legs and toes toasty. Keep the heel of the boot to a maximum height of 2.5cm. The style of the boots needs to be classic without big buckles or any attention grabbing detail. Be sure that your boots are regularly polished and free of scuff marks. Keep the boots to the same neutral palette as the rest of your business attire. If you are wearing pants you may opt to wear an ankle or mid length boot if you prefer. Always make sure the hem of your pants sits below the top of your boots to maintain a professional appearance.

3. Skirt
Skirts are still a great option for winter, especially if you really don’t want to find yourself wearing business pants for the entire season. A pencil skirt or knee length skirt in neutral tones such as black, navy, grey or brown are acceptable options, and can be teamed up with a pair of opaque pantyhose or thick tights and a pair of knee length boots for a professional look that also keeps you warm.

4. Scarf
Scarves are a fantastic way of adding colour to your outfit and allow you to mix and match to create a different look without much expense at all. Keep the scarf in place with a simple loop tie, and check that it looks neat and tidy.

5. Gloves
Gloves are a great way of keeping warm. Invest in a pair or two of quality wool or leather gloves. Keep the colours to the same neutral palette as the rest of your outfit and you will get plenty of use out of them.

6. Thermal
Underwear. Now you won’t hear these mentioned too much, but they are a great option for keeping out the cold! Nobody will even know that you’re wearing them. There are many different options when it comes to thermal undergarments these days ranging from singlets to long sleeved tops and leggings. These are a fantastic way of keeping the cold at bay and they can be your little secret!
